Low Rent! (2022 – Ongoing)

In Low Rent!, we create the links between historical and contemporary issues surrounding the housing crisis currently affecting Ireland. Using The Irish National Land League banners and iconography as a basis for the work we address the root issues of the housing crises such as landlordism, poor housing standards, lack of affordability and state investment from the current Irish government.

Our rationale for this project is due to the growing discontentment with the policies of successive governments since the foundation of the state which has led to the unprecedented situation now. Both of us, along with the vast majority of the younger generations have been affected by the housing and cost of living crisis. This project is to directly challenge the failures of the Irish state. While doing this we wish to send the message of an inclusive Ireland for all that supports and nurtures the people living here through housing for all.

The collaboration between Caleb and Luke has been with Photo Museum Ireland’s emerging artist award and through working with Anthony Haughey as a mentor to design work with the National Museum of Ireland.  This project is also sponsored by The Arts Council through the Agility Award 2023.
