NAMAesthetic (2025 – Ongoing)
NAMAesthetics describes the visual, sensory and spatial characteristics through which neoliberal urbanism has manifested itself within the built environment. Emerging in the redeveloped spaces of the Docklands, this captures the relationship between corporate architecture, managed spaces, historical location and the production of urban value. This aesthetic is characterised by corporate neutrality, managed emptiness and an atmosphere of manufactured luxury. It is expressed through the glass facades and the reflections simultaneously putting those inside on display and obscuring their actions through private security and legislation. The architecture of the built environment is designed minimally with clean straight lines and easily replicable designs. The cold steel and grey concrete used to the support the endless views of windows acting as visible and invisible barriers to work life, produce repetitive geometries of squares and rectangles. Hard edges are everywhere
